AGQ Labs acquires MCI laboratory in Costa Rica

AGQ Labs takes another step in Costa Rica with the acquisition of the majority of MCI Laboratory

MCI laboratory (Microbiología y Calidad Industrial) is the country’s main laboratory in the medical device sector

After the acquisition of Netpharmalab in Spain, carried out in 2023, this purchase operation of Microbiología y Calidad Industrial (MCI laboratory) is due to the diversification and growth strategy of the AGQ Labs Group. In this case, the objective is twofold, on the one hand, to consolidate ourselves in Costa Rica, a country in which we have been working for more than ten years, and where we have a great position in health and safety, agri-food and the environment. On the other hand, continue expanding our range in the life sciences sector, since MCI is totally focused on the quality control of medical devices, fundamentally on microbiological controls.

Management continuity

The until now owners of MCI, Roberto Ávila and Mauren Monge, laboratory director and technical manager, respectively, will continue to direct the business, also remaining shareholders. The current directors have valued the fact of having the support of a large international group with 30 years of experience.

Microbiology and Industrial Quality was founded in 2010, and in these thirteen years it has become the reference laboratory in terms of microbiology controls for the thriving medical device sector, which already represents 36% of Costa Rica’s exports. generating more than 45,000 direct jobs. After this integration, we have two laboratories in Costa Rica, AGQ Labs and MCI Laboratorio, and a team of 120 professionals.
